So, I have had a couple days of classes now. I go to nine schools a week so I am kept fairly busy. I must say, the education I received in acting has been the most helpful here. I had to improv an entire class today--I showed up and they handed me some cards of fruits and said 'please play a game' and I was all 'um, ok' so I made up a game where the kids hit the cards a lot. It went over pretty well because if there is one thing kids like it is being violently competitive. The children think I am insanely tall and, I must say, my height in centimeters does sound impressive. I like all my schools quite a bit and I am surprised at how much I like my job. I really really enjoy it. I also enjoy the English textbooks and CDs. I am getting a taste of how ridiculous I must have sounded taking French in elementary school. Yesterday I sang a lot of what they call 'chants,' and my favorite by far is: 'Penguin! Penguin! Can you sing? Can you sing? No, I can't! No, I can't! Penguin! Penguin! Can you fly? Can you fly? No, I can't! No, I can't! Penguin, what can you do?' and all of that is sung in the most incredibly upbeat voice I have ever heard. It is awesome. I also like that a lot of the chants have my name in them, clearly for the sole reason that it rhymes with eight. My favorite of those goes something like: 'Lisa, John, Kate, Kate, Kate! 1234567888! Terry, Andy, KATE, KATE, KATE! 1234567888!'--I think you see where that one is going. Basically, it is a classroom of kids yelling my name. Which they do anyway. Oh, I also have to share this little gem with you before I go--it is from my third graders' textbook and I thought it best to just read it to you:
